Scalp Reconstruction with Muscle Sparing Latissimus Dorsi Free Flap: Case Report
Lee Dong-Han

Lim So-Young
Abstract
Scalp reconstruction is a challenging problem that requires attention to the cause, size, and condition of the defect before making a management plan. We report a case of managing 4 year-old child who visited our clinic with an open wound of scalp. In patients with scalp defect with exposed skull, it is important to evaluate associated morbidities such as brain injury or facial bone fracture. Free flap transfers are excellent methods for reconstructing defects of scalp. Among the possible options, muscle sparing latissimus dorsi flap has several advantages. Surgeons can harvest relatively large, thin flaps with little donor site morbidities even in children. It is a reliable and safe option for reconstructing large scalp defects which can lead to a good functional and aesthetic outcome.
